| This is where the artist in me comes through. I have to be able to imagine how the growth pattern of the tree is going to affect future functionality, aesthetics and durability of the plant. Seeing five, ten twenty and fifty years into the future is how to determine which limbs to cut and which to save. It is the most difficult part of the pruning process. Limbs too close to the roof line will ultimately be removed. For most species, it is best to remove them before the limb diameter exceeds six inches diameter at the trunk attachment point. Knowing this allows me to remove them at the proper time. Timing is important. Not just the time of year pruning occurs but the timing within a trees lifespan that certain whole limbs are removed. Only a seasoned professional who has practiced years has the experience to guide your trees through the pruning process. |
